Spring 2021
Chameleon
I co-founded and led product design for a startup that made the process of renting baby clothes easier. It was selected as the Judge’s Choice at LavaLab’s 2021 Demo Night and won $1,000.
The Problem
The process of shopping for baby clothes in a sustainable way is difficult for new parents.
Babies are known to grow very fast, doubling their body weight in nearly 5 months, which requires a lot of clothing purchases.
If parents use hand-me-downs from close friends or family, they don't have a lot of choice when it comes to selecting specific items.
The constant purchasing process and limited hand-me-down options result in a lot of textile waste overall.
After noticing these common pain points, we also asked parents if their baby ever wears something just once.
81% said yes!
The Solution
To solve these issues, we created Chameleon, a platform that allows parents to easily rent out baby clothes at an accessible price.
Chameleon, like most e-commerce platforms, works in three steps: browse, order, and repeat. However, our specific focus on renting rather than simply ordering added a unique challenge, and was the feature that I focused on iterating upon the most during the design process.
Browse Items
Parents can browse from over 50 items and filter based on their baby's age and the item type. All items are sourced from sustainable and minority-owned brands, and additional rentals are available on an individual basis.
Select a plan
To make the rental process seamless, users are prompted to select the particular window that they want their clothing to be delivered and returned by.
Parents can then place a fully customized order by selecting from two membership plans.
Receive and repeat!
Once a parent finishes placing their order, the process is complete.
The process
Breaking down the rental experience
I created a user flow for account creation and the rental experience
Creating a visual identity from scratch
In addition to designing the user interactions, as the sole designer on the team I also created Chameleon's logo, design system, and pitch deck.
Landing page
I also designed a simple landing page to entice potential customers, keep track of those interested through the waitlist, and convey Chameleon's value in a quick and easy to implement format.
Playing with motion
I also included a quick animation using After Effects for the pitch deck to help grab the audience's attention.
The pitch
I designed a winning pitch deck for industry professionals and prospective investors.
The result
After presenting Chameleon at LavaLab's Spring 2021 Demo Night, it was selected as the "Judge's Choice" and won $1,000.
I collaborated with two developers and one product manager to create Chameleon through LavaLab, USC's premier, student-run, product incubator. Creating a digital product from scratch was definitely one of the highlights of my freshman year at USC, especially given the unique circumstances caused by COVID-19.
